How can the people of Hyrule be so stupid?

Time and time again, a green teenager called Link dressed in specifically green garments with a symbol on his hand saves the whole freakin universe, and what do the people do?

They forget. Again and again. Every time the cycle repeats, the people just forget about who saved their universe the previous countless times. It's like this endless cycle of meaningless self sacrifice to defeat an enemy who will just rise up again after a given amount of time.

I mean, what's the point?
